Beth’s most recent project I’m That Way is a collection of songs written by Louisiana songsmith Bobby Charles, best known for his hits “See You Later Alligator” and “ Walking to New Orleans.” Beth has long been a fan of Bobby’s music and her voice fits it to a tee.
Bobby was thrilled when he heard I’m That Way and called Beth right away to tell her so. They became steadfast friends with Bobby regularly offering songwriting and music business advice. Beth was both honored and touched when he asked her to sing with him on the song ironically entitled “You Will Always Live Inside of Me” on his last album Timeless released in February, 2010.
His death in early 2010 marked a significant loss to American music and Bobby’s honest, no-frills style of song-writing will always be an inspiration to Beth and many others.
Beth has begun recording for her next release, expected in early 2011.
Floridian McKee, in love with Louisiana music, sings heartfelt and inviting interpretations of 10 r&b gems (including “Walking To New Orleans”) by the recently de- parted Cajun songwriter Bobby Charles. ★★★1⁄2 - Frank-John Hadley, DownBeat Magazine
There is such an easeful joy in all these songs, even the sad ones, it feels like the sun, the moon and the herbs all lined up in McKee’s favor. -Bill Bentley, Sonic Boomers.com
McKee goes at the Charles canon with all the daintiness of a starving person let loose on a plate of barbecue. Man or woman. – Steve Hochman, New Orleans Offbeat Magazine
. . McKee pulls it off magnificently, so much so, indeed, that her album’s been endorsed and raved about by none other than Charles himself. – John Conquest, Austin Texas 3rd Coast Magazine
Her soulful vocals make you stop and listen, turn up the volume and soak the magic up. . . this is one terrific album that I can’t stop playing, it’s that good. – Rick Meek, Blue Suede News
Louisiana laughter amongst New Orleans nobility. – Gareth Hayes, Blues Matters
